Designing a versatile audio system for Shack 15—a 51,000-square-foot community-based social club and coworking space—was no small task. It required navigating both architectural and operational complexities. The venue spans multiple spaces, including the main atrium, dining areas, studios, and conference rooms, each with distinct acoustic needs.
As a historic landmark within the Ferry Building, all renovations and equipment installations required multiple city approvals. To accomplish our goal, we collaborated closely with club ownership and our friends at NNNN x OJAS to design an audio system capable of delivering high-quality sound throughout the diverse spaces. To overcome structural challenges, we engineered a specialized rigging system that allowed speakers to be safely and securely mounted in difficult areas, including tall ceilings and arched sections. The result – a fully integrated, multi-zone audio system that supports the venue’s wide range of uses—from coworking and meetings to curated events and live performances—enhancing both functionality and the overall guest experience.
Today, Shack 15 stands as a benchmark for San Francisco’s community-driven spaces and a model of excellence in high-performance audio design, demonstrating how thoughtfully integrated technology can elevate both environment and experience.
